Seems as though my confusion (and original issue with IPv6 connections here suddenly not working) continues..
So I've dug a little deeper, and maybe some of the linux guys can help me out here.
Basically, at the moment the distro is Gentoo, and lately it seems I have two IPv6 addresses assigned to the same machine. One of them is the one based off my MAC address, which is the one I have been using for the entire time now. After awhile, it seems to just grab the other v6 address and use that instead. I don't want this to happen at all.
I run "ifconfig" and get this (pertinant info only):
inet6 2001:470:1f11:1027:68d4:530a:2845:6954/64 scope global dynamic valid_lft 86392sec preferred_lft 14392sec
inet6 2001:470:1f11:1027:207:e9ff:fe49:6711/64 scope global mngtmpaddr dynamic valid_lft 81990sec preferred_lft 9990sec
The second one listed in both is the one I've always used, and wish to continue to use. However, SOMEHOW it has been changed to a temporary address, and since it seems to expire faster than the other one, it reverts to the other one and stays that way until I notice it and either reboot, or reset my interface.
I have no idea how in the world I'm getting (or originally got) the other v6 address, nor have I or do I want it whatsoever. Is there a safe way to remove that address (the one ending in 6954) permanently?
If not, I assume I'll have to setup a static address (maybe with privacy extensions enabled in order to not have to use my MAC address) and disable any dynamic addresses? In this case, anyone have any good links with detailed instructions on how to do so, so I don't screw things up worse than they are?
Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!
