Haha, I have 3 IPv4 networks, plus the IPv6 network here.  The IPv4 networks
are:

Private LAN (RFC1918)
Public IP (tunneled) - a /29 of public IPv4 addresses, which are used for the
BBSs among other things.
44net - A /24 allocated from the amateur radio 44.x.x.x range.  Also tunneled.

And the host with the 14 IPs is a VPS on the Internet, which hosts a lot of
Echolink conference and proxy instances.  Each instance requires a different
IPv4 address, so the server has a /28 allocated to it.

MvV> But it seems Joe is also an exception. He does not seem to have a SLAAC
MvV> address...

Hmm, that's unusual.  Every IPv4 network I've run has had SLAAC as its default
means of address allocation.

MvV> Some of us use "hex speak" they have addresses withthe host part like

Yeah, I do like that idea, but my addressing was done before I had Fidonet
hosts. :D

TL>           <-- 19 in hex = 25 in decimal

MvV> Yep. But why not just make it "25"?

I wanted to keep them the same (binary) value.  Many of these addresses are
single digit host numbers anyway. :)

MvV> Or use  2001:44b8:4176:f100::10.69.181.25.

MvV> The above is a legal IPv6 adress.

Good point, didn't think of that at the time. :)

MvV> Can you guide Joe through the steps to configure a staic addy?

Depends on the OS and how far he can find his way himself.  I'm better with
text based configuration (e.g. Linux), much easier to describe in text.  Also,
latest Windows I have is 7, so I can't guarantee being able to get the prompts
right for newer versions.

Short answer:  "it depends". :-)

... Gotta run!  HAL just shut off the life support system again...
