Hello Scott,

On Wednesday April 30 2014 23:58, you wrote to me:

When I ask my ISP when they are going to roll out native IPv6, their standard anwer is "no hurry, we still have plenty of IPv4 addresses to meet the demand". And as far as the fixed line providers go, that may be true. Internet penetration is very high in The Netherlands, almost every household has a broadband connection. The market is near saturation. They aren not getting many NEW customers who need an IPv4 address.

But of course that is only half the story. What they ignore is that:

Indeed. IPv6 only is rising over there and to reach them I need IPv6.

For the mobile providers the story is different. They do not issue publicly routable IPv4 adresses any more. Mobile devices get a 10.0.0.0/8 or 100.64.0.0/10 address.

I guess not many of the smart phone crowd needs to run servers...

In the case of 6to4....

SL> That's rather intelligent of them. *stunned*

I suppose it is their way of saying that 6to4 is not recommended. The same goes for Teredo BTW.

MV>> Forget about 6RD.

SL> What's wrong with 6RD?

It is based on the same technology as 6to4, but it avoids some of the problems. So maybe it is good enough for you.

SL> Hurricane don't have any local POPs.

You do not really need a local POP unless you need lots of bandwidth.

SL> Six have one in NZ and they support RDNS, so that might be the way to
SL> go.   None of the other tunnel providers in Oz do RDNS so they're out.

If you really need SMTP over IPv6 yes. But do your really need that yet?

Cheers, Michiel
