Those were the days. I remember inheriting a corporate network that was a mishmash of IPX, IP and NetBEUI, with both Novell and Windows networking protocols in use. After sorting out the IP address assignments and demonstrating the feasibility of full time Internet access, I ended up getting the job of running that netowrk for many years. :) I actually started dabbling in IPv6 only a few years after. In those days (c. 2000), Linux support was highly experimental. One had to compile a custom kernel, and there were some interesting bugs, one of the most well known ones being that the default route didn't work! For a 2.2 series kernel, one had to add a static route to 200::/3 to talk to the wider IPv6 world. :) Yep, getting IPv6 working on a 2.2.x kernel was an experience! A far cry from today's "It just works". :-) Just as challenging, if not more so was finding applications that actually supported IPv6. Often, you had to add some experimental patch, and the support was hit and miss. Things broke frequently, and I got to keep the pieces, but it was fun. :)
