I hope this message isn't an intrusion, but Ward Dossche has suggested that I reach out to you. First though, he asked me to tell you that he intends to fly to Moscow in March or April and drink beers with the Russian sysops. :-)
I am looking for anyone from the former Soviet Union who had encountered a copy of Opus 1.03b around 1986-1994 and used it in 1991.
In 1994, someone from Russia sent Wynn Wagner, the author of Opus, an email using the anonymous remailer in Finland. In the email, the sender declared that people in various locations around the Soviet Union had used Opus to stay informed about what was happening during the attempted military coup of 1991. Also, the people using Opus had no idea how it came to be in the Soviet Union, but it appears that they made good use of it.
A few of us involved in developing Opus and some of us involved in getting it into the Soviet Union are still alive. It wasn't until 1994 when we learned that Opus had successfully made it in. In 2018, Wynn Wagner passed away, and I then became determined to contact the people who had used his BBS software Opus so we could more about one another and what we did.
I am hoping to connect with anyone in the former Soviet Union who had been using it in 1991, and especially the man who sent Wynn Wagner that email.
