Well, maybe not difficult per se, but difficult to "forget" your Germanic roots when converting your thoughts into the more Latin related constructs that is usually the English way.

I agree. It looks like a real abomination even to a Germanic person like myself. As Kees already pointed out, I'd rather go for the past tense version of it.
After all, I've been living in Sweden for more than 67 years now. :)
