Thank you, Kees. I thought it would be a good idea for someone who is British to put a British point of view. I don't claim to speak for others - it is just my personal view but I do think it is held by many others. The trouble is that everyone is speaking from their own situation and how it will affect them personally. I actually admitted that at the end of my email! But others simply go along with what those they believe in tell them.
KvE> Political renewal fought for the institution of referenda for a long time. KvE> We had a few and nearly all resulted in disaster of some kind.
KvE> There are always people that try to emphasize some popular issues and KvE> hide what it really is about and thus turn the result in their favour.
KvE> Although some may disagree, that it is a good thing, the our right to KvE> referndum has been revoked.
We in the UK have always fought against having referenda. The Members of Parliament have been elected to make the decisions for the people. The problems come when the elected representatives start voting according to their personal whim, or simply to get up the ladder into the government by kowtowing to their superiors.
I'm against referenda, but as a referendum got us into this mess I think only another referendum can get us out of it.
On the other hand it could make things even worse. Look at our last general election when Theresa May went to the country to get a bigger majority!
This afternoon I've just had an email from my MP (he's the first one ever to communicate with voters in this way!) telling me what he plans to do next. Unfortunately he is a member of the Labour (Socialist) Party and I'm afraid I don't agree with what they want. But at least he's keeping me informed and I respect him for that.
