In some parts of the world people prefer to watch men in tights (e.g. American Football, baseball and similar). We prefer to watch women in tights.
The other day in Québec, Canada an event took place, that I guess did not get much media coverage over there. But it was rather interesting to notice that the only women that managed to challenge the Norwegian/Swedish dominance were from the USA. Out of the 12 women that made it to the semi finals, three were from the USA:
