MvdV> Binkd does not use the nodelist at all.

   DUH?

MvdV> Binkd has its own config while from which it extracts the information.

Produced using the latest nodelist, yes. At least on this system.

MvdV> It is your nodelist to binkd config convertor that accepts it.

Can you think of any mailer that uses the raw nodelist without any compilation going on? My TCL (BBS program) and my FrontDoor (old mailer) both have to compile it's own nodelist each week.

MvdV> binkp.net convertor of you use the binkd.net method. The fact that they
MvdV> do it that way does not mean that the rules are followed.

Works for binkd -- that's good enough for me.

MvdV> This is what FTS-5000 says:

Since binkd is now the most common mailer, if any FTS contradicts how binkd uses the nodelist, it's the FTS that is wrong and not binkd. Per definition.

MvdV> Versions of MakeNl that allow "-Unpublished-" without Pvt have been
MvdV> available for DOS, Windows, OS/2 and Linux for well over a decade.

I know. I was the one person that dragged the reverse engineered version of MakeNl from obscurity into a real project, and was single handedly responsible for removing all the old DOS specific crap in it, making it into a compilable new version.

MvdV> Don't
MvdV> you think we have reached the point where there is no excuse for NC's
MvdV> still using a version of MakNl that forces them to use the old method of
MvdV> listing IP only nodes as Pvt?

WTF has this to do with allowed node listings? I was the first *C ever to run a Y2K patched version of MakeNl. I made it myself. Do you really think this has anything to do with any *C running a 20yo version of MakeNl?

BTW, one of the many things I patched in my 1999 version of MakeNl was to remove the "only pure ASCII" requisite. Now that we even have this configurable in the MakeNl that I started, with the new "allow8bit 1" in the config, one would expect that we could have moved on from the Z1 instigated "pure ASCII only" time, but still not so. At least not in zone 2. Can you explain that (as if I didn't know...)?

MvdV> Cheers, Michiel

   Yeah, sure...
