I read a Belgian survey from 2010 a few years ago, stating that the British, with an appanage of EUR 50M per year, still was the most expensive Royalty in Europe. Followed by the Netherlands with EUR 40M.
The Nordic countries had Norway as #1 with EUR 27M followed by Denmark with EUR 12,5M and Sweden the "cheapest" one with EUR 11M.
The Swedish kings never managed to get very much out of all the plundering that took place on continental Europe in the 17th century, when we were kinda like a super power. All the pillaging went to the noblemen that raised a handful of sons of their tenants to fight in the wars, while cowardly hiding at home, taking all the stolen goods for themselves. What else is new...?
