I've been to Oradour a couple of times, each time with different members of my family. I stood inside the church, where the Nazi troops rounded up the inhabitants, locked them in and set fire to it - well, it was frightening! The troops were only teenagers (according to the local person giving a guided tour), chosen because it was easier to manipulate them, and they had to live with what they'd done for the rest of their lives which, in most cases, wasn't very long. The guide was a child at the time. He survived because he'd been sent to stay overnight with relations in a nearby town. He gave unofficial guided tours for free because he wanted visitors to know the detail of this atrocity, and what happened to his family, his school friends, and the whole of his neighbourhood.
.... and it's all happening again.
Each time we say it must never happen again .... and then it does.
