All private houses in the UK have front doors, and other doors to the outside, opening inwards. This was also true of houses where the public were admitted until quite recently when the Health and Safety Executive determined that it was safer, in the event of a fire or similar, for such doors to open outwards. (I have to say *houses where the public are admitted" for fear of being confused with "public houses" or "pubs" though these are, of course, included!) Such houses have also always had designated fire doors which do open outwards and have push, or panic, bars to open them instead of handles.
Here's another question: do your windows open outwards or inwards? In the UK all windows open outwards whereas in France they open inwards. I would prefer that they open inwards because they are easier to clean, especially upstairs windows!
