Björn, think again. If you went to EUP, would that mean you were corrupted? Why do you presume everybody else going there is? I hope you don't speak for yourself here (you surely didn't sound like that before). So the actual thing to do is to get people properly informed, and to elected someone who will act according to that. Yes, I know that's neither easily nor quickly done, but things are definitely moving.
As for the salary of politicians... that's an argument going on forever. After all, I think they should be paid well. We need to attract good people to do the job, they have to (when talking about the EUP) work far away from home in an expensive environment, their salary needs to be high enough to immunise at least against simple forms of corruption, and to be independent of lobbyism. So instead of lowering their allowances, I'd rather propose to limit their possibilities to earn money and other benefits by taking up other jobs in parallel or shortly after their political office more strictly.
