I saw this (a few empty shelves, toilet paper, milk, toast...) this evening for the first time.

I've heard it from numerous places in Germany meanwhile, too. Maybe these issues are more focussed to larger cities? We live in a small village with no shops, so I'm pretty used to buying things on stock for weeks or even months. The shops I usually go to are in neighbouring communities which aren't larger, either. My colleagues who live in a larger city told me just earlier this week that they hardly have more food at home than they need for two or three days because for them the shops are so close, and they often go out for cooked meals.
