but he did manage to glide down for a safe landing (in Canada, was it? ).
It helped a but that he was an experienced glider pilot !
Also helped their fields are generally large as against say France.
Does go to prove a little that refueling using weight i.e., KGs might have helped but in the UK there are a lot of flying schools that charge per hour (at well over 200 pounds ph) based on fuel burn at 7.5 gallon per hour despite the manuals saying that it is based on US gallons which is a lot less than imperial gallons ( 8 pints, at a weight of 7.2 pounds against 6 pounds for US ).
If they did it would mean that they should charge somewhat less despite the overcharge of 300%. Based on UK litre of 1.75 - 1.95.
I try not to use a club aircraft at such a price as I still remember flying at 6 pounds ph (around 1970) when I was trying to obtain a civil license - This was in Barbados as I was a Freelance Programmer for 9 months or so.
Had to do the complete course as I could not tell my Dad where to find my mil. log book and other paper work to send to me via BA as a AOG quickie.
