Hello David!

16 Jan 19 17:12, you wrote to me:

DR> Thank you, Kees. I thought it would be a good idea for someone who is
DR> British to put a British point of view. I don't claim to speak for others
DR> - it is just my personal view but I do think it is held by many others.
DR> The trouble is that everyone is speaking from their own situation and how
DR> it will affect them personally. I actually admitted that at the end of my
DR> email! But others simply go along with what those they believe in tell
DR> them.

I have a relative living in the UK for over 50 years now. I usually visit
her once a year. I was amazed fierce some of her friends were against the
 EU.

I am also amazed of the number of lorries thar cross from France to the UK.
It will be a nightmare if these lorries all have to have their goods
 checked against jet unknown regulations.

DR> We in the UK have always fought against having referenda. The Members of
DR> Parliament have been elected to make the decisions for the people. The
DR> problems come when the elected representatives start voting according to
DR> their personal whim, or simply to get up the ladder into the government by
DR> kowtowing to their superiors.

Well your prime Minister seems to have a mind of her own. I wonder what drives
 her. Is it eternal fame?

DR> On the other hand it could make things even worse. Look at our last
DR> general election when Theresa May went to the country to get a bigger
DR> majority!

Yes that was a miscalculation. But the trick is often tried in other
 countries as well.

DR> This afternoon I've just had an email from my MP (he's the first one
DR> ever
DR> to communicate with voters in this way!) telling me what he plans to do
DR> next. Unfortunately he is a member of the Labour (Socialist) Party and I'm
DR> afraid I don't agree with what they want. But at least he's keeping me
DR> informed and I respect him for that.

With our multi party system it is not possible to have district
representatives. But it is nice that he called you, he may want your vote
 in the near future.

Kees
