Sadly enough it is true. I often wondered what happened to that old pioneer spirit of the 80ties. Back then we did not shy away fro new developments. On the contrary, we wanted to be the firdt to try it out. But now the most heard phrase is: "don't fix it if it ain't broke". :-( The ZCs of the two largest zones still use 25+ year old software and brag about it... At least one them seems to think IPv6 is a fad that will blow over. Same for 1/3 of the candidates to fill the vacancy of the FTSC chair. :-(
But I have not given up all hope. I do not have the illusion that I can make the IPv4 only nodes go away. But mmaybe, just maybe I can make a few see the light. After all, we have some 80 IPv6 capable systems on the list published weekly in Fidonews. That is a non neglegible fraction of the active systems in Fidonet. And the list is still growing.
So who knows, maybe one day IPv4 only nodes will find themselves in a similar position as POTS only nodes now. ;-)
