"Opa" and "oma" also appear in Dutch. They are just short for "grootvader" and "grootmoeder". There is no distinction between the parents of the father or the mother.
If there is a need for clarification one often adds the surname. I had "oma Vlist" and "oma Ubink" (the latter being the mother of my mother)
Dutch has more shortcomings in the family naming system. "Cousin" and "Nephew" are both "neef" in Dutch. Female version "nicht". To make it more complicated "nicht" can also mean "male homosexual".
"Zwager" can be either the brother of one's wife or the brother of one's sister. Similar voor "schoonzuster".
"Oom" and "tante" are brothers and sisters of one's parents. Again no distinction betweem siblings of the father or mother. And then... "oom" and "tante" are also used for friends of the family that have no direct blood relationship.
