Hello David,

On Friday August 09 2019 16:55, you wrote to me:

DR> If only we can get our domestic circumstances sorted out then there

DR> what we were promised three years ago simply isn't going to happen.

Welcome to politics. Politicians making promises thay can't deliver is the rule rather than the exception. In a democracy the voters have a responsibility to decide for them selves what they choose to believe and who they elect.

MvdV>> Actually what the UK was offered on April 2016 was a fantastic
MvdV>> deal.

DR> But we didn't have our referendum until June 2016 ...

I was referring to the "final better deal" that was offered just before the referendum. Only to become effective in case of "remain". My memory says April 2016. It may fail me. Again...

MvdV>> No Euro, no Schengen, a discount on the contribution, access to
MvdV>> the free market... All the benefits but only part of the
MvdV>> duties. The UK will never ever get a deal as good as that...

DR> But at the moment we don't have the euro or Schengen.

The idea was that every EU country should have the Euro. You were granted a temporay exemption that was de facto be made indefinite.

DR>  What discount?

A discount on the contribution. You pay less than than other countries with the same BNP. As a result others pay more.

DR> What access to the free market?

You enjoy the benefits of free trade within the union but carry less of the burden than other countries.

DR> No, we haven't been told that. We've been told that we will have to
DR> pay something like £39billion as a divorce bill (or is it euros -
DR> anyway it's a lot of money) and it wasn't Boris that told us that.

It is not a divorce fee, it is just outstanding debts. If you check out of a hotel, you still have to settle the bill when you leave.

Cheers, Michiel
