Hello David,

On Thursday December 26 2019 16:30, you wrote to Gerrit Kuehn:

Then you would not have had time for Fidonet. ;-)

I don't think it will affect our friendship. Fidonet members have been dealing with "foreigners" ever since it extended beyond the borders of the country of the founding fathers. Regarding the Brits, the perception of many this side of the channel is that they have alway been a bit "foreign". The UK joined the European Union, but the hearts and minds of the Brits were never fully in it. Not joining the Euro, not joining Schengen, driving on the other side of the road, imperial measures...

Plus that after 31 jan, you will only be half out. The UK will still have to follow all the EU rules until 31 Dec. You will go from half in to half out. Brexit won't effct Fidonet other than that it will generate discussion...

BTW, FYI, here we have a one (man|woman) one vote system. The situation that one party gets an absolute majority in parliament is only a theoretical possibility. It has not happened in at least half a century. At the last election for Parliament the largest party had only 22% of the votes. Coalition is the norm here.

Parliament is elected for four years. Both the government and Parliament can call for early elections. A vote of "no confidence" forces the government to resign. The government can also resign herself. Both result in early elections. About one in three governments do not make it until the end of their four year term.  But you probably aleady knew all that...

Happy New Year David.

Cheers, Michiel
