He already did it before when the 2019 exit deadline was extended to 31 jan 2020. So a last minute turn last week would not have really surprised me.

Given that any deal must be ratified by the European Parliament, there is effectively only four month left for negotiations. There must be a deal by the end of October.
Given that this circus has been on the move for four years now, and almost nothing has been achieved, I very much doubt there will be a deal. If I were a gambler - which I am not - I'd put my money on a no deal brexit.
