Hello Karel,

On Tuesday December 22 2020 03:07, you wrote to me:

I am not a specialist either but what I understand from the media is that when there is no deal, there is no deal all existing rules are null and void end WTO rules apply. In those rules there are no exceptions foor goods in transit. "Bonded warehouses" only applies when there are "deals" between the counrties concerned.

You were talking about goods moved from China to the UK and from there on distributed in the EU. When the transition period ends at the end of the year, these good ARE touched 2-3 times more than needed.

Be that as it may be, but those changes took place gradually over the years. With a hard no deal Brexit we will have a drastic change from EU rules to WTO rules. From one day to another. No one can see all the consequences.

Just an example: The Netherlands exports a lot of flowers to the UK. The flowers are packed in plastic crates. After arriving at the destination in the UK, the empty crates are returned to the The Netherland for re-use.

In case of a no deal, in 2021, not only will there be import taxes on the flowers when they arrive in the UK, there will be import taxes on the crates as well. And not just that, when the empty crates are returned, they will be taxed again when arriving in The Netherland.

You may say that is crazy, but those are the WTO rules when there is no deal.

Be prepaired for more surprises.

Cheers, Michiel
