When Ursula von der Leyen held her "we have a deal" speach on the day before Christmas, she used three languages: English, French and German. The French and German was translated simultaneously in English by a translator.
What I found annoying is that I heard both von de Leyen and the translator simultaneously through the TV speakers, so that I could understand neither. ... Until I accidentally discovered that on the head phones they were clearly separated into the right and left channel. So I took off the right earphone, thereby muting the translator and so I could understand what von der Leyen had to say... ;-)
Anyway, this sort of confirms that English, French and German are "working languages" in the EU, but English is dominant.
