Fidonet always was a cooperative anarchy. There were periods that people took "control" with various degree of succes. But in the end it was always abused. Those days are gone.

Many of those returnees think they can just pick up where they left. Some even think they can bring back the Fidonet of 20 or 30 years ago. That misunderstanding is a dominant reason the half life of returnees is a little bit less than a year. Fidonet has changed. Backbones are gone and the Fidoweb is here to stay.
