Maybe not forever, but indeed for a very long time. My parents lived through 4 yrs and 4 mths of Nazi occupation, it seemed forever to them at that time as well. So years, yes.

It's been said before ... war is good for business. In the field testing of new weaponry which never has been tested before under battle conditions. But that's only on the Ukrainian side and its allies. The only thing Russia outranks Ukraine in is number of footsoldiers and we notice that it's not the deciding factor. State-of-the-art weaponry is, satellite reconnaisance is, electronic warfare is, military intellugence is.
Russia is fighting this along historic conventional rules while the game-of-war has changed to something else.
It is the same thing with countries such as North Korea that has a massive land army which is totally useless except for propaganda films.
