Could be, but I think you are forgetting something which seems to be becoming more and more a universal trend ...
... people have had it with traditional politics of the left and the right with rethorics they don't understand. So they'll vote for people who, in their limited reasoning, will listen to the people and get the job done, even if doing the job could be the worst possible scenario.
That is what got Trump elected, what got Orban elected, what got that kid in Austria elected, what got the current leadership in Poland elected.
Look at Belgium, a traditional country with governments historically fluctuating between the left and the right. But in the meantime that functions less and less and we've got the world record of coalition forming with over 400 days. And we're again heading at it, after elections in May we still have no new government ... so that's 200+ in the meantime.
Elections also have shifted from voting "in favour" of something, to voting "against" irrespective of what the consequences are ... that is Brexit for you in one sentence.
