Let me make some statements:
1) Why is a smiley needed? To signal something is a joke? If a person does not understand the joke while staring at it, a smiley could be considered an insult.
2) Americans usually expect everyone else to understand what they're implying while using Americanisms ... when talking about a TV show, they expect everyone else to know that particular programme ... or has watched FoxNews. So ... who are "The Two Ronnies" and the other two?
