I do agree. In my described case it was just name for service. In general is about to fit to someone's business model. Actually Oracle has part of something for 0 EUR/month - which suits me.
In my country we are less sensitive to "free" service as a word. Explanation from corporations or banks is that "everybody is doing like this". So you can have "Unlimited internet connection" (which can mean limit 50GB/month), For free bank account (which can mean you have to pay to bank some flat sum but under some conditions they give it back), etc.
