I receive 2...3 calls per day (that's a median: usually there's none, but sometimes could be 20), 1...2 minutes each - that makes the probability of collision very low.
Also, I don't use the land line phones (only mobile or IP), so I can get a notification of second incoming call while the line^W connection is busy.
