1) I created a host name for my system with only an AAAA record. Rinaldo configured that host name in his WinPoint config. Rinaldo polled with the IPv6 address.
2) I added an A record to that host name. Rinaldo polled with IPv6.
3) I removed the AAAA record for the host name. Rinaldo polled with IPv4.
4) I added the AAAA record back in. Rinaldo polled with IPv6.
5) I removed the A record. Rinalodo polls with IPv6.
Conclusion: Winpoint follows the OS if the OS is configured to do IPv6 first if the host is reachable by IPv6 and IPv4. If only one of the two is available WinPoint uses that. All as expected.
What was not tested was the case that the OS is configured to try IPv4 first.
