I am gathering statistics on the distribution of ages of the FreeBSD committers to try and track the group's average and median ages. To do this I need to extract birth years from the calendar.freebsd file. While 318 of the current active committers have made entries in this file, there are 50 who have not done so. If you are getting this email, you are one of the missing committers.
I would appreciate your adding yourself to the calendar.freebsd file. It is normally found in
/usr/share/calendar/calendar.freebsd.
However, the master copy that you need to edit is found in
head/usr.bin/calendar/calendars/calendar.freebsd.
A typical entry looks like this:
01/19 Marshall Kirk McKusick <mckusick@FreeBSD.org> born in Wilmington, Delaware, United States, 1954
I realize that some of you prefer not to publish your birthday. In that case, I request that you send me the entry that you would have put in the calendar file so that I can use it to calculate my statistics. I promise not to distribute it in any way. It will be used only in the generation of my statistics. It is helpful to have the full calendar entry because it will then just work with my awk script. However, all I really need is your freebsd.org email name and your year of birth (e.g., mckusick@ 1954) and I can then turn that into something that can be processed by my scripts. Thank-you in advance for helping out.
Kirk McKusick
