It is handled in parallel using the same infrastructure as the ASCII only list. And no, the ZC2's system does not handle UTF-8 in the sense that he can read and create UTF-8 encoded mail.
But when configured with the option "ALLOW8BIT 1" MakeNl is fully 8 bit transparent. SO it processes UTF-8 encoded segments without problems.

It is the way we do it here. It ensures that the ASCII and UTF-8 versions of the nodelist are synchronised.
